SBA Receives $25,000 Grant from the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation

THE SPINA BIFIDA ASSOCIATION RECEIVES $25,000 QUALITY OF LIFE GRANT FROM CHRISTOPHER & DANA REEVE FOUNDATION FOR Keeping the Spina Bifida Community Connected through SBA’s Adaptive Fitness Club.

Arlington, VA, October 2021–The Spina Bifida Association is proud to announce that it has been awarded $25,000 as part of the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation National Paralysis Resource Center (PRC) 2021 COVID-19: Addressing Social Isolation Quality of Life grants. Twenty-one grants totaling $580,934 were awarded. The Quality of Life Grants Program supports nonprofit organizations that empower individuals living with paralysis. Since the Quality of Life Grants Program’s inception, more than 3,300 grants totaling over $32 million have been awarded. Funding for this program was made possible through a cooperative agreement with the Administration for Community Living (ACL grant #90PRRC0002-03-00).

The Reeve Foundation National Paralysis Resource Center has several grants under the Quality of Life program awarding grants in different category areas, varying in different amounts. The COVID-19: Addressing Social Isolation Quality of Life grants funds one-year grants of up to $50,000 to nonprofits programs that address social isolation during the COVID-19 pandemic to enhance the connectedness of people living with paralysis and their caregivers to their communities and preventing adverse health outcomes.

“Even as our nation slowly emerges from the devastating and tumultuous COVID-19 pandemic, many in our community are still feeling the effects of social isolation due to their compromised health conditions, and unfortunately, this feeling will linger until the virus is controlled and they feel safe enough to resume life as before,” said Mark Bogosian, Director, Quality of Life Grants Program, Reeve Foundation. “The Reeve Foundation is proud to be able to offer the support needed to help alleviate the physical, mental, and behavioral effects related to isolation and loneliness brought on by the pandemic.”

“The Spina Bifida community is grateful to the Dana & Christopher Reeve Foundation for providing an avenue for our community to participate in weekly adaptive exercise and wellness activities,” said Sara Struwe, President and CEO of the Spina Bifida Association. “Thanks to this grant, we’ve engaged experienced people with Spina Bifida to lead fitness classes and workshops, which in turn empowers those participating in the program.”
