SBFV holds a number of events for members throughout the year.

Spina Bifida Awareness Week

1st – 7th September

This program provides members with a foundation for living full and independent lives and discovering life’s possibilities. Comprehensive manuals are available for all SBFV adult members with spina bifida. Topics covered include personal care and safety, mobility, living in your own space, relationships, mental health and personal identity, employment, managing finances and healthy eating. New members will be sent a manual in their welcome package.

Each year SBFV promotes Spina Bifida Awareness Week by hosting various activities.

This year we celebrated with a colourful installation in the window of Ross House at 247 Flinders Lane, Melbourne CBD, featuring many of our members involved in a variety of fun physical challenges.

Night of Celebration

Every November SBFV holds a Night of Celebration (including our AGM) for members, supporters and special guests to join and toast the year’s achievements. The evening includes Achievement Awards, guest speakers, entertainers, prizes, gifts and supper.<.p>

International Day of People with Disability

3rd December

In 1992, following the United Nations Decade of Disabled Persons, the General Assembly proclaimed 3rd December as the International Day of Disabled Persons.

Bringing together individuals, businesses, community organisations and governments worldwide, the International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD) celebrates and acknowledges the contributions, skills and achievements of people with disability.

SBFV is proud to be involved each year in the IDPwD.
